Darko Rundek

Darko Rundek is one of the most authentic and influential singer-songwriters from the former Yugoslavia – a poet, musician, and theater director whose career spans over four decades and has shaped generations of listeners across the region. Born in 1956 in Zagreb, Rundek became a prominent figure on the alternative and rock scene as the frontman of the legendary band Haustor, and later built a rich solo career marked by constant innovation, experimentation, and artistic integrity.
Formed in the early 1980s, Haustor left a deep mark on Yugoslav music culture with timeless songs such as:
- “Moja prva ljubav”
- “Šal od svile”
- “Ena”
- “Bi mogo da mogu”
Their fusion of new wave, reggae, jazz, and Balkan melodies was visionary and remains influential to this day.
After Haustor disbanded, Rundek moved to Paris and began a solo journey that expanded through various formats: solo albums, collaborations with the Rundek Cargo Orkestar and Rundek Cargo Trio, as well as work in music and theater. His music evolved into something more introspective and layered, with deep, poetic lyrics and rich, experimental arrangements.
Some of his most notable albums include:
- “Apokalipso”(1997) – a legendary solo debut featuring hits like “Apokalipso”, “Ruke”, and “Grane smo na vetru”
- “Ruke”(2002)
- “Mhm A-Ha Oh Yeah Da-Da”(2006)
- “Mostovi”(2015)
- “Brisani prostor”(2020) – a mature, introspective work that reaffirms Rundek’s timeless relevance
Darko Rundek is known for his philosophical approach to art, his outspoken environmental and social engagement, and a stage presence that makes him a truly unique performer. Every song becomes a ritual, every concert a transformative experience.
