In the Art Gallery of the National Museum in Kragujevac, on June 16, the exhibition “Andy Warhol” will be opened as part of the accompanying program of the Arsenal Fest.

The opening of the exhibition will be at 5:30 PM and it will last until July 1.

Visitors will be able to see 40 well-chosen prints by Lazar Vujic, one of the most prominent European gallerists.

Vujic met Warhol while working on graphic designs for the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo in 1984. Among the graphic solutions, he wanted to include Warhol’s work.

“He was kind, calm, a great artist, a man who showed respect to every interlocutor. Warhol’s original idea for the Olympics was a ski jumper, but I preferred a skater and in the end, we decided on that motif,” Vujic said in one of the interviews.

Who was Andy Warhol?

Andy Warhol was an American artist, painter, film director, and writer. He is considered the most famous and successful artist and a true representative of the pop art movement.

His first solo pop art exhibition was held in New York in 1962 and included some of his most famous works, such as “Marilyn Diptych,” “100 Soup Cans,” “100 Coca-Cola Bottles,” and “100 Dollar Bills.”

During this period, he also created works that defined his career, such as numerous illustrations of typically American objects and famous personalities – Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley…

A painting of Marilyn Monroe was sold for 200 million euros in 2022, making it the most expensive piece of 20th-century art.

One of his most famous quotes is that “everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.”

He passed away on February 22, 1987, in New York City, at the age of 58.
