The Cardigans

Cardigans - Arsenal Fest 2026

The Cardigans are a Swedish pop/rock band formed in 1992 in the city of Jönköping. The group consists of vocalist Nina Persson, guitarist Peter Svensson, bassist Magnus Sveningsson, keyboardist Lars-Olof Johansson, and drummer Bengt Lagerberg.

The band achieved international fame in the mid-1990s thanks to their distinctive blend of melodic pop, alternative rock, and subtle lyrical irony. Their third studio album, First Band on the Moon (1996), propelled them onto the global stage, largely due to the hit single Lovefool, which became a worldwide phenomenon and was featured on the soundtrack of the film Romeo + Juliet.

Throughout their career, they have released several acclaimed albums, including Gran Turismo, noted for its darker and more electronic sound, as well as Long Gone Before Daylight, which showcased a more intimate and emotionally expressive side of the band.

The Cardigans are known for their sophisticated pop sensibility, Nina Persson’s distinctive vocals, and their ability to combine delicate melodies with thematically complex and sometimes melancholic lyrics. Although they have taken several breaks over the years, the band continues to enjoy cult status and remains one of the most significant international musical acts of the 1990s.
